This week I was asked about vitamins and minerals. This lady asked me what should she take and if certain minerals and vitamins were ok to take.
I really don't know how to answer that. It is hard to answer because how do you know what you need and how much. Having too much of a vitamin or mineral can be just as bad as not having enough, so how do you know what you need. Even if you're taking a supplement that you have bought from a health food shop or the chemist, how do you know that your body can absorb that vitamin or mineral in that form. You don't know so it's really hard question to answer.
I really don't know what the best answer is. I go to a kinesiologist, she will muscle test me. I hold my arm up and she will push down on it and test whether I need it or not. I usually come away with one or two vitamins or minerals that I need. From my last session I needed vitamin C and magnesium. The time before that I only needed magnesium, the time before that I only needed a b-complex vitamin but nothing else, so it really depends.
She tests several different makes of supplements to see which one my body likes. That's how I do it. It's not a cheap thing to do and usually they are good quality vitamins and minerals, so they cost more than if you're just buying them in the health food shop.
The subject of vitamins and minerals is something I have been thinking about recently. I'd quite like to get tested using blood test but in the UK we have the NHS and we're so used to not paying for medical procedures. You then have to pay for a functional medicine doctor or a nutritionist, someone who can carry out the test. You then need to pay for both the testing and the person to interpret the results.
It's a difficult question to answer.
Yesterday I went out to buy some clothes. A lot of my clothes, not only are they quite old, they are also a bit baggy and washed out. I wanted to buy some tops, I also found a pair of trousers and I fit into a size 16, which is fabulous. They are very tight, very, very tight. In November I bought a pair of size 18 that were very tight. I used to go out with the top button undone and after I had eaten I had to undo the zip. They wouldn't fall down because they were so tight but now they are a bit baggy on me. I am working on the same principle that I will fit into the size 16 at some point, maybe by the end of the winter.
I also got a couple of cardigans, I was really pleased because normally I would automatically choose the extra-large size but I tried the large. A couple of cardigans looked too big, I tried the medium size but they were too small, so I had to go with the large. I also tried the extra-large but they were very baggy, so I was pleased with that too.
My starting weight in June 2017 was 231.8lbs
Last Saturday was 189.4lbs
This Saturday was 188.8lbs
That's a loss of:
0.6 lbs for the week
Loss of 15lbs since the beginning of week 1
You can see in the weekly chart my weight fairly flat only dropping back down today.
Even the yearly chart was flat.
This week was the 1st November I did my measurements. Adding up all the measurements over the 27 different places I measure I had reduced 7.5 inches compared to October.
Although my weight loss has been fairly flat I have been fully keto this week, I haven't had any cheats. I feel like I am still having too much protein. As I've mentioned before protein can revert to glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis so I'm going to have to work on cutting my protein down a little and keeping those carbs spot-on. I think the carbs have been ok.
My husband usually does the cooking but this week I've done some cooking.
Last Sunday I made some cheese crisps and some mini quiches, which instead of having pastry were lined with courgette, which kept it all together.
I also made a mushroom soup from the Headbangers Kitchen, which was very tasty. It didn't look as good as his. His looked much creamier and smoother whereas mine the cream separated a bit.
From my ice cream book by Carrie Brown I made strawberry ice cream. This is definitely my favorite so far. In each recipe you get a different quantity of mixture so I only got a small pot, about four servings. I've had one this week and might have another one this evening. It will be staying in as an ice cream that I have regularly.
My toe is a lot better but still still not quite right, when I bend it it hurts and there is a certain point just below the joint that is quite sore. I still haven't done any exercise except for my squats. I have done press ups on my knees, so my toe isn't on the floor and some sit-ups.
I have still been doing a hundred squats a day, resting every fourth day.
On Monday I am going to try a HIIT session. I will aim for two or three times in the week and see how that goes with a view to starting the running again the week after.
